Your team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google's services. As a Hardware Engineer, you design and build the systems that are the heart of the world's largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You develop from the lowest levels of circuit design to large system design and see those systems all the way through to high volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our cutting-edge data centers affecting millions of Google users.The Google Augmented Reality team is a diverse group of experts tasked with building the foundations for great immersive computing and building helpful, delightful user experiences. We're focused on making immersive computing accessible to billions of people through mobile devices, and our scope continues to grow and evolve.The US base salary range for this full-time position is $168,000-$252,000 bonus equity benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Minimum qualifications: Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 6 years of experience working in a Mechanical Engineering technical environment, or 5 years of experience with an advanced degree. 3 years of experience in technical leadership. Experience in Optomechanics and Optical Alignment, as well as Optomechanical engineering. Experience with production of consumer devices and managing domestic and international vendors. Preferred qualifications: PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Experience in design of precision alignment mechanisms, motion control systems, or automated dispensing. Experience with mechanical and optics metrology devices such as CMM, OMM, interferometry. Responsibilities Evaluate hardware design feasibility based on product requirements. Lead optical-display module system design and reviews of display systems integration, precision alignment approaches, product interface features for integration process, and critical product interface that drives integration performance. Drive discussions on system assembly process down-selection, prototyping, equipment and tooling needs for precision assembly meeting mechanical, optical and reliability requirements. Lead analysis, gauge activities supporting product scalability, and support process validation studies and proof-of-concept display system builds. Work with external partners to support technology deployment and product development, and approve activities in a discipline of hardware design, architecture, and development for a product.
